This unit is designed as a self-study guide to concepts and terminology often associated with special education programs. We believe strongly that it is essential that schools promote the dignity and well-being of all students. Many of the procedures included in special education programs have been established to help assure students receive a fair and appropriate education. Careful study of the contents of this package should both acquaint you with common procedures and provide an explanation of their importance.
Each lesson contains a short discussion of the topic, provides excerpts from state and federal special education laws and rules, and provides one or more study activities. For future reference, a glossary of common terms and additional suggestions for reading have been included with the study materials. A pretest and final review examination also accompany the package.
